Sonia was born in 1992 in San Pablo, la Laguna, Sololá, Guatemala. In the present, she still lives there with her parents, since her brothers are already married and have their own house. In 2007, she started working in Centro Maya as a member, and in 2011 she moved to Alma de Colores in the area of handcrafts and sewing.
She likes to work in Alma de Colores since before she was bored at home, due to the fact that her mother wouldn’t let her go out. Yet, since the day two members of the Center went to visit her house to propose her a job, her mother let her go to work, and now she’s happy working here.
Sonia is one of the workers that’s been the longest in Alma de Colores, therefore, she was one of the main helpers when it came to teaching the new members; for the same reason, she remembers all of the people that came through the Center.
What she likes the most about Alma de Colores is to work with her colleagues and have an income that allows her to save money and help her mother at the same time.
Her dream is to keep on working here. For the ones reading this, she would like to tell them to learn how to speak in Sign Language so she can communicate with more people.
